Biography

Geoff SelvidgeGeoff joined the Powersports Industry in 1979. The first 4 years of his career were spent with Kawasaki as a Regional Sales Manager for motorcycles. In 1983 Geoff moved in to the role of Sales Administration Manager at the company’s UK HQ.

In the mid 1980’s, Geoff was asked by Kawasaki to develop the sales of non motorcycle products: generators, all terrain vehicles, small engines and Jet Ski Watercraft. This was attacked with relish and turnover was increased from £40,000 to £7m within four years.

In 1991, Kawasaki reorganised to create a new division for Business to Business activity. Geoff was asked to plan and head the Commercial Products Division that operated mostly in the agricultural, turf care and related markets. His brief covered sales, marketing, technical support and parts. By recognising the importance of customer service in the working market, Kawasaki became a leading player in these arenas.

In 1993, already experienced in the management of change, Geoff was asked to manage the total sales and marketing operation for all products as Kawasaki again reorganised. Geoff was a key member of the team who guided the company through this restructuring.

In 2001, Geoff was asked to relocate to the Netherlands and join the newly formed Kawasaki Motors Europe as Vice President. During his time there, he was involved with the centralisation of product logistics and the formation, recruitment and management of pan European marketing and accessory teams. He was also a key member of the executive management and product planning teams.

Geoff returned to the UK at the end of 2004. Andrew Smith then asked him to join Yamaha UK as Divisional Manager for Motorcycles with responsibility for sales, marketing and dealer network development.

Geoff played a key role in the recovery of Yamaha sales that led to them becoming the UK motorcycle market leader for the first time in 2009. His role also expanded to the formation and management of a Marketing Communications Division, responsible for building the brand and achieving a consistent marketing platform across all the company’s business units.

Geoff has now moved into the freelance world and is looking forward to utilising his 30 years of experience in all aspects of the sales and after care of Powersports products to help your business achieve its true profit potential.
